GEMS A Boost Youth Group Production – is being held at 7pm, Thursday 13 July 2017 at City Academy.
“A Story of Strength, Survival & Sisterhood.”
Hanham resident Katy Busby, mum to two girls, founded Boost Youth Project as a program to Mentor and Build Confidence in girls and young women.
The production will be an evening of drama, song, dance and poetry starring an all-female cast of students of City Academy, many of whom are from the strong Somali & Muslim community in the area, and their Boost mentors.
The production tackles such universal themes as domestic abuse, self-esteem, discrimination, interpreting your feelings, and the more specific local issues facing families from a different cultural background, and the struggle they experience to understand, respect, and ultimately embrace their new environment.
An uplifting evening showcasing local talent, bringing the community together in the state-of-the-art performing arts facilities on offer at City Academy, a Cabot Learning Federation Academy.
All proceeds going to:
Childine
East African Famine Appeal
Rehearsals take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30pm – Media welcome to attend by appointment.
